After years of building websites using other CMS platforms, we recently made the decision to craft all of our client websites on the WordPress platform. This was not a decision we came to lightly but certainly one we believe will be better for us and for our clients. In this blog post, we want to get into the reasons why we think dedicating ourselves to the WP platform makes sense. Let’s get to it. . .
Disclosure: In the spirit of open and honest transparency, we want to let our readers know that some of the links in this post are ‘affiliate links.’ This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, 1 Source Web will receive commission. We are very particular about the products and services we recommend and only do so with products we ourselves use.
First of all, what is WordPress ?
WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL technology.
WP is the most popular website management system in use today powering more than 18.3 million websites. The platform is flexible, easy to use, extremely cost effective and can be customized according to your every requirement. WP is constantly being improved and with each new update, we see new features.
WP has come a long way since the days of its focus on being a blogging platform. Right now, it is the most popular, easy to use, modern and fully customizable CMS (Content Management System) out there. It is also extremely reliable and, with a few simple precautions, very secure. As of June 1, 2017, WordPress was reported to be powering 35 % of all websites according to W3Techs. That equates to a 62.5 % share in the marketplace! You just don’t achieve those kind of statistics with a sub-standard CMS platform.
Some of the most high-traffic sites on the web today are built entirely or in part using WordPress. TED, CNN, Skype, Facebook Newsroom and Time. If WP works for them, it will work for you as well.
Did we mention WP is FREE? We want to be quick to admit that we have learned the hard way; free is not always good! In the case of WordPress it is good on a number of fronts. Not the least of which is we can pass that savings on to our clients. One of the fundamental shifts we have made as an agency is that we no longer want to sell websites as a commodity. We have learned that a great website is just one tactic of an effective online strategy.
Being able to redirect the costs associated with developing a site from scratch toward more important and effective aspects of the overall strategy, like SEO, traffic funnels and inbound marketing is a big plus for our clients. With WordPress and a few of our favorite development tools, we can have the basic structure and design of the site completed in hours instead of days.
WordPress is Search Engine Friendly
By design WP is very SEO friendly. WordPress is written using standard compliance high quality code and produces semantic mark up which makes your site very attractive to search engines. In addition, we have become expert in the use of several great plugins that we can use to provide our clients with excellent ongoing SEO management services.
WordPress is Safe and Secure
Contrary to what you may have heard, WP is one of the Most secure Content Management Systems out there. In fact, WP is developed with security in mind, so it is considered quite safe and secure to run any website. However, just like the real world, the internet can be an uncertain place. There are intruders out there who want to get their hands on as many sites as they could.
To add an extra layer of security, we host all of our client websites with Flywheel who provides robust server level security using Sucuri to monitor security threats and we highly recommend them. In addition there are several other simple security boosting steps than can and should be taken with your WordPress site.
WordPress is Highly Customizable and Publishing Content is a Breeze
Okay, that’s really two reasons but they are closely related. WP started out as a blogging platform. It has now grown up to become a robust CMS trusted by some of the biggest enterprises and eCommerce websites in the world and its publishing prowess is unbeatable. Most other enterprise CMS solutions were not built with publishing in mind and for that reason, they can’t deliver the functionality that WP comes with out of the box or with an addition of free extensions: SEO, RSS feeds, revisions, authorship, editorial publishing workflow, moderation and much more.
In addition, and one of the reasons WordPress is so popular is because it meets the demands of many types of users with its flexible framework. It allows designers and developers like us to create just about anything our clients can imagine or need for their online presence.
These are just a few reasons why we believe WordPress is the go to platform for your website development and management. Give us a shout and bend our ear about how we can leverage WP in your overall online strategy in a way that will saves you time and money as well as deliver excellent value back into your business. We can’t wait to hear from you!
